Landscape Architect

Community Services Department

This is a permanent, full-time position working forty (40) hours per week

Working with broad assignments, manage capital projects such as open space developments and provide professional advice and guidance for proposals, plans, designs and standards. Direct contractors and consultants to ensure cost, quantity and quality control in compliance with Engineering Servicing Standards, contract specifications and other resources. Approve major capital project design and urban\rural subdivision development.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a Landscape Architecture degree program from a recognized educational institute. A degree with three (3) years related experience or a diploma with five (5) years related experience.

Eligible for membership in the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA).

Minimum three (3) years experience in a directly related position.

Proficiency with computer applications is required.

Above average communication, written, leadership, interpersonal, planning and problem solving skills are required.

Must possess demonstrated leadership, mentoring and coaching skills.

Proven ability to achieve self-set goals and targets with independent initiative together with the motivation and commitment to be successful in this position.

Position requires intense and continuous mental activities and requires outdoor fieldwork in all weather conditions.

Experience evaluating site plans for adherence to landscape development/architectural standards and contract specifications, and formalize, prepare and present technical reports are required.

Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position.

Proven ability to read and interpret engineering, landscaping plans, drawing and specifications.

Proven ability to acquire a sound working knowledge of pertinent Municipal Bylaws and standards.

Valid Alberta Class five (5) driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle during working hours are mandatory.

Valid First Aid Certificate is preferred asset.

Must successfully complete a criminal record check.

Salary $34.52 (Probationary rate)

$38.09 - $41.06 (Permanent rates)

Our current project workload is very diversified and includes projects throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. Although our firm provides a broad range of planning and community design services, the person we are looking for will focus on landscape design and project management skills.

Experience Required:

A general understanding of the land development process and local government planning in British Columbia is an asset. Due to rapid growth, UMA's Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture in Saskatoon has an immediate opening for a Landscape Architect.
